Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Brushfire offers a Group registration feature.  If you are the group leader, start the Group Registration and then share the code with others that you want to join your team!

The event is held rain or shine.

Yes!  Everyone is welcome to come clean up the river!  Everyone must be registered, including children.  You can register for the event by clicking here.

Yes! We will have water and soda available, both in recyclable aluminum as well as a water dispenser

The event kick-off will be at  151 North Main Street, Wichita, Kansas 67202, United States.  You may park in any public parking space in that area.  There are multiple places available for parking.  Click here to see a photo for places open for parking.

Yes! (while supplies last) And they are made from recycled plastic bottles!

Gloves and trash bags will be provided.  We will have some trash grabbers and skimmers available as well.

No. We need them for next year!

Either along the sidewalk beside the river or next to the curb by the street.

Please do not clean those areas, just let a committee member know where they are located. There may be a designated site close by where the homeless have placed their trash for us to pick up.

Some Campsite Cleanup Information (These points will also be announced at the start of the event):

  • Wichita PD will be giving the camps a head's up about the event.  Campers are welcome to participate in the event and get a meal, tshirt, etc
  • Treat people with dignity, be polite.
  • The winter shelters closed on April 1st - the Union Rescue Mission shelter that is open is for men only, that means that there are several women's camps clustered along the river, starting at the John Mac bridge (Pawnee & Broadway) and on to the southeast.  This is actually our southern-most border for the cleanup, so it shouldn't be an issue
  • Do not enter the camp areas and leave the area if confronted by campers.  You can ask if they have any trash that they want to dispose of but do not clean up their personal property.  You can clean up around the camp but not IN the camp.
  • Hazmat items - human waste and needles.  Do not touch!  The city has a contractor that cleans that material up.
  • Do NOT give people money
  • If you do witness illegal activity or experience aggression, please report the situation to clean up organizers and we will relay it to the liaison with the Wichita PD.

All along the rivers from the Red Sim Park Bridge all the way down to the WATER Center in Herman Hill Park.

The buses run until noon, and can pick you up where it dropped you off. They return to the staging area on a regular basis.

Volunteers have pulled out bikes, scooters, grocery carts, a cell phone, and even an artificial leg!
